FIJI Catholics attending the World Youth meet in Australia have a huge role at the celebrations with the Lautoka parish choir singing at the opening mass where Pope Benedict XVI will be the main celebrant.
This will also be the Pope’s first visit to Australia. Yesterday the last group of Fiji youths flew out for the festival in Sydney.
It is understood one youth from each country would receive the sacrament of confirmation at the celebration from his holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
World Youth Day (WYD) is the largest youth event in the world and will be held in Sydney from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 20 July, 2008. Organised by the Catholic Church, WYD brings together young people from around the globe to celebrate and learn about their faith.
