Youth group celebrates Fiji Day

Fijian News | admin | October 11, 2011 09:17

It was their love for their country, Fiji, that inspired them to be a part of a mini-celebration staged to commemorate the 41 years of Fiji’s independence yesterday.

A group of young people from all walks of life braved the heavy rain at Tamavua, Suva, to celebrate Fiji Day with a difference.

The group consisting of youths from different backgrounds and workplaces were led by Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre executive director Shamima Ali.

“This is the first time for us to stage such a flag-raising ceremony because we want to be a part of the nation joining hands in celebrating Fiji Day,” Ms Ali said.

“We want the people of Fiji to know that we love our country and this is why we gather here today to celebrate this special day.

“We also want to encourage the present authorities to know that we are into the roadmap for democracy for 2014.

The Fiji Sun team was invited to be part of the celebration yesterday and these youths had tears in their eyes when they sang the national anthem just to show the people of Fiji that their celebration signified their love for their country.
