State of California shows support for Fiji

baifranksThe State of California in USA is proud to partner with our island home to combat the impacts of climate change.

This was highlighted by California’s Governor Jerry Brown at a ceremony in Sacramento today as Fiji became the first small island development state to endorse the Under2 coalition.

Brown says he looks forward to taking the next step with twelve other US governors that have formed an alliance led by both democrats and republicans committed to achieve their goal to reduce emissions by 26 to 28 percent from 2005 levels.

Brown adds they will join Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Bonn, Germany to show that states and regions will fulfil the Paris commitment.

Brown was also nominated by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and incoming COP23 President as Special advisor for states and regions ahead of the November meet.

The Under2 coalition is an international pact among cities, states and countries committed to limiting the increase in the global average temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius.
