How to slash your power bill

mumsMichelle Thompson-Laing, 32, is a mother-of-three from Sydney’s northern beaches, and she managed to cut $5400 from her power bill.

Taking to her blog, Keep Calm and Get Organised, she cut her home’s electricity bills from $1800 to just $450 a quarter.

Her first tip is switching halogen light globs for more efficient LEDs.

She said always check with your energy company to see if there are on and off-peak times, and always remember to switch off lights, computers, TVs and heaters when you’re not using them.

Ms Thompson-Laing only uses her dishwasher for full loads on the eco setting, and has taught her kids to decide what they want before opening the fridge so it’s open for the shortest time possible.

She also suggested cooking in bulk.
