Slater back in green and gold

slaterThe Melbourne Storm dominated the NRL all season, and now seven of their players are going to take on the world.

But for one of those players, the thought of pulling on the green and gold again seemed almost impossible just 12 months ago.

Billy Slater stole the hearts of all rugby league fans on Sunday night, even staunch New South Wales supporters like myself.

I had a tear in my eye as the Clive Churchill Medallist broke down after the Grand Final victory.

Slater spent almost two years out of the game recovering from double shoulder surgery, and even his doctor has found his recovery hard to believe.

But his strength and determination saw him climb back to the top of the NRL, and now he’s back in Kangaroos contention.

Coach Mal Meninga believes he’s the top full-back in the competition.
