Finance the big hurdle for Fiji’s bid to join NSW competition

sivoThe double success for the PNG Hunters in the 2017 season, with the team winning the Intrust Super Cup and the minor premiership for the first time, has reinvigorated the push by Fiji to join the equivalent competition in New South Wales.

The bid team want to tap into the market in Greater Sydney, which has a big Fijian population, while also establishing a pathway for young rugby league players back in Fiji itself.

Former Australian and Fiji international Petero Civoniceva is at the heart of the bid, and he’s hoping they can drum up enough financial backing to get the new team off the ground next year.
