Flying Fijian Daugunu in frame for a Queensland Reds deal

filipTHE irresistible 10-try form of Filipo Daugunu has put the little-known Fijian flyer on the Queensland Reds’ radar for a development player contract.

Daugunu, 22, has been exceptional in Queensland Country’s rise to second in the National Rugby Championship and he’s done it under the gaze of Country and new Reds coach Brad Thorn.

It’s not just the pace that finished four tries against the Greater Sydney Rams in Sydney on Saturday when sharp anticipation netted two with intercepts.

He loves roaming off his wing for chances and he can also kick because of his strong soccer background.

The twist is that the Reds have a bigger winger, as good or better, in front of them in Ed Fidow, who scored three classy tries in Brisbane City’s impressive 51-24 smashing of Melbourne Rising in heavy rain at Toowong on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Fidow, 24, has his eligibility linked to Samoa because he has played rugby sevens tournaments for his homeland.
