West Harbour Wins Kiama Sevens 2009.

The 37th Annual Kiama Sevens was held at the Kiama Showground, Kiama on Saturday, 28 February 2009 commencing at 8:30 am. Individual trophies were presented for players in the winning team. The Kiama 7s Cup was presented to West Harbour. Prizes were presented for the teams reaching the semi-finals and finals.

This year prize money including trophies is $15,000.00.

There was a Country Cup for the 2 best-performed country teams who do not make the semis finals.

This is our third year for this competition for Country Clubs to be acknowledged.

The Kiama Sevens is a club competition and takes the form of a 48 team seven-a-side knock-out competition. Each club can enter two teams but if nominations are in excess of 48 your club may be restricted back to 1 team. Clubs will be seeded and elimination rounds played. Every team is guaranteed 2 games. In addition there is a separate knock-out competition run for the runners up from the elimination rounds.

All players participating are  registered with Australian Rugby Union and have a Rugbynet ARU ID number. This is for insurance purposes. All clubs playing in the Illawarra District Rugby Union Competition are  invited to compete as are all Tooheys New Cup clubs and a number of other country, interstate and city clubs.

The Kiama Sevens is used as a selection trial by NSW Country Rugby Union and Australian Rugby Football Union for future representative sevens teams.

Only a maximum of 48 entries are accepted. Entries must be in writing and received no later than 9.00 a.m. Friday 30 January 2009 and must be accompanied by an entry fee of $250.00. A full draw for the competition will be prepared and forwarded to participating clubs when nominations have closed.

Kiama Showground is situated alongside Kiama Surf Beach. There will be picnicking and the usual facilities available. The Kiama Club look forward to seeing you all next year which will be a greater year for the club.

Once again, Congratulations to the West Harbour team for winning this years Kiama Sevens Title.
