Tuqiri has been named on the wing for next Monday’s clash at the Sydney Football Stadium in what will be his first NRL appearance since 2002.

The former Brisbane star returns following an eight-year spell playing rugby with the Wallabies, NSW Waratahs, and more recently English side Leicester.

And although Hasler expects the dual international to be a huge success for the Tigers, he believes he may initially struggle to re-adjust to the 13-man game.

“He will probably find the pace and intensity of the game hard,” Hasler said.

“Playing on the wing they’re not doing the hit-ups and the runs but it’s still a fairly active game and a lot of work for wingers just getting back, chasing, the whole lot.

“He will find it a little bit foreign.”

Hasler even joked Tuqiri may struggle to remember the rules, having been out of the game for so long.

“The plan on Lote will be to kick, trap him inside his 20 and he’ll kick straight out on the full over the sideline,” he said.

“It’s not as if he hasn’t played football before. He’s an outstanding athlete and he’s got a lot of experience so we will see how he comes up.”

Hasler has named young New Zealand playmaker Kieran Foran at halfback following Matt Orford’s departure to the Super League.

Foran will line up alongside new skipper Jamie Lyon, who will start the season at five-eighth.

Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson has done little to dampen speculation that Krisnan Inu has no future at the club by naming the New Zealand centre on an extended five-man bench for Friday’s showdown with St George Illawarra at Parramatta Stadium.

Inu is joined by powerhouse prop Fuifui Moimoi and new signing Shane Shackleton, with Justin Poore lining up for his debut in the front row with skipper Nathan Cayless.

North Queensland’s big-summer signing Willie Mason will also start on the bench for the Cowboys’ opening fixture of the season against Brisbane on Friday.

Although Mason is not fully up to speed with his fitness, coach Neil Henry said he was happy enough with his form in the trial matches to include him in a 17-man squad.

“I’d like some impact off the bench (from Mason),” Henry said.

“I thought he was good in the Darwin trial (against Gold Coast).

“He’s been training really well and gradually getting back into the contact side of it.”

New Warriors skipper Simon Mannering is out of his side’s clash with the Gold Coast after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

The Warriors are also without Steve Price, who is sidelined with a heel injury, so Michael Luck will lead the side at Skilled Stadium.

Titans coach John Cartwright has named new recruits Greg Bird and Joseph Tomane in his starting line-up with former Sydney Roosters prop Riley Brown included on an extended bench.

John Lang has included Sam Burgess and David Taylor in his first South Sydney side for Sunday’s encounter with Sydney Roosters, who will have former Canberra five-eighth Todd Carney making his debut at fullback.

Chiefs coach Ian Foster said: “we’re looking forward to our first New Zealand derby game, as they are always intense and competitive.”

“It has been good to have a full training week after last week’s short turnaround. There’s been an opportunity to reflect on our first four games, and whilst we were frustrated with our last performance, overall the squad has made great progress.”

The Chiefs welcome back lock Craig Clarke into the Chiefs line-up, having recovered from a groin strain suffered in the round two match against the Lions.

Clarke, with 17 Chiefs caps to his name, is one of two changes in the Chiefs tight-five this week. The other is hooker Aled de Malmanche starting in the number two jersey. Vern Kamo comes into the reserves bench as cover at hooker, with Hika Elliot suffering a hamstring strain at training earlier in the week.

“Craig Clarke’s return is a result of him doing a great job with our medical staff. This has ensured his return at the best case scenario we gave him of three weeks, rather than the longer, but expected four to five weeks. ”

“I expect a real lift in our intensity, back to the levels we achieved in the first couple of weeks. Certainly there were some individuals last week that didn’t get to the level they would have wanted,” said Foster.

In regards to Sione Lauaki Foster said: “Sione and I have decided that in light of the week that he has had, that the right thing to do is not play him in this game. We will fully support Sione over the next few weeks.”

Chiefs

leaving their three-month-old daughter home alone at their apartment in Suwon, South Korea.

Police said the couple became obsessed with living online and neglected their real lives.

They raised an avatar baby through their Second Life profiles, while their real daughter was given just one bottle of milk a day.

Father Kim Yoo-chul, 41, and mom Choi Mi-sun, 25, called the emergency services when they returned from one online session in September last year and found their daughter dead.

“We found she had passed away when we woke up in the morning,” they said. But cops became suspicious about how severely dehydrated the baby was.

A spokesman for the National Scientific Criminal and Investigation Laboratory, which carried out an autopsy on the girl, said, “she appears to have starved to death because she was not fed for such a long period of time.”

The girl was initially well cared for by her grandmother but her health deteriorated after she moved back in with her parents.

Police tried to arrest the parents but they disappeared after the baby’s funeral.

Authorities caught up with them Tuesday and charged them with child abuse and neglect.

The couple told police of their guilt after their arrests. “Due to our sense of guilt, we have not been to a PC gaming room over these five months,” they said.

Online games are massively popular in South Korea.

A 28-year-old man dropped dead recently after playing his favorite game Starcraft for 50 hours nonstop without eating or drinking.

The debate has raged for years on the dangers of mobile phones and whether the radiation emitted from the devices cause brain tumours.

But researchers at the University of South Florida found mobile phones might be good for users after conducting a study that exposed 96 mice, most of whom had been genetically altered to develop the Alzheimer’s disease as they aged, to electromagnetic waves generated by mobile phones.

The mice were zapped with 918MHz of frequency twice a day for one hour each time over a period of seven to nine months - the equivalent of several decades in humans.

In older mice with Alzheimer’s, long-term exposure to the electromagnetic fields caused deposits in the brain of beta-amyloid, a protein fragment that accumulates in the brain of Alzheimer’s sufferers to form the disease’s signature plaques, to be erased.

Memory impairment in the older mice disappeared, too, the study showed.

Young adult mice with no apparent signs of memory impairment were protected against Alzheimer’s disease after several months of exposure to the mobile phone waves, the study showed.

And the memory levels of normal mice with no genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s disease were boosted after exposure to the electromagnetic waves.

The study was the first to look at the long-term effects of mobile phone exposure in mice or humans and its findings took even the researchers by surprise.

“Frankly, I started this work a few years ago with a hypothesis that the electromagnetic fields from a mobile phone would be deleterious to Alzheimer’s mice,” lead author Gary Arendash, a professor at the University of Southern Florida, said.

Based on the findings in mice, the researchers hoped electromagnetic field exposure could be an effective, non-invasive and drug-free way to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease in

West Harbour flanker Sam Latunipulu has been drafted into the 12-man squad for the Adelaide Oval tournament March 19-21 after a highly impressive Kiama Sevens carnival last week.

Teenager Liam Gill, who started his rugby career in Adelaide, has retained his spot in the youthful team, along with a teammate from last year’s national schoolboys side, Kimami Sitauti.

National team coach Michael O’Connor spoke with Latunipulu immediately after he helped West Harbour conquer Aussie Spirit in the semi-finals last month at Kiama - his first Sevens action for three years. The 20-year old was invited to a Sevens camp in Canberra before playing in a selection trial.

“My main goal in Kiama was to see where I was at with my fitness and strength,” Latunipulu said. “After the game against the Australian side, Michael approached me; it was totally unexpected. It is going to be tough in Adelaide, faster and stronger than previous competitions I’ve been in.

“But it is exciting and the experience is going to be awesome.”

O’Connor has been forced to revamp his squad for Adelaide and the Hong Kong event the following week after the squad was again hit by injury at the Las Vegas tournament, where it qualified for the semi-finals.

Leading try-scorer Clinton Sills (groin), Brian Sefanaia (knee) and Bernard Foley (foot) have been ruled out, allowing Latunipulu and Ed Stubbs to make their debuts and Dominic Shipperley to be recalled.

The 16 countries will arrive in Adelaide on Monday.

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens will pick Tuqiri in his side for SFS match - despite the former Wallaby having just four full days to prepare.

Tuqiri finished his rugby union commitments yesterday when his English side, Leicester, scored a 35-19 win over London Irish.

And Tigers fans will be just as elated at news the club’s other powerhouse winger, Taniela Tuiaki, is on his way to recovering from three ankle operations.

There were suggestions Tuiaki may not play this season but the massive winger should be back within eight weeks - if not earlier.

It will give Wests Tigers two giant wingers, Tuqiri standing 191cm and weighing 104kg, Tuiaki at 183cm and weighing 105kg.

Tuqiri will arrive back in Australia on Wednesday and immediately start training in preparation for the Sea Eagles game.

“He will be announced in the side,” Sheens revealed yesterday.

“Lote played this morning so we have to determine whether he gets back in fair shape and how he pulls up. But unless there is an obvious reason, he will participate in the game.

“As for how long, I would only be surmising and I don’t want to do that just yet. I want to check on his frame of mind. We don’t want to embarrass him by playing him when he’s not ready. We will have to judge the situation when we see him.”

Tuiaki’s injury was a massive worry for the club - but it now appears he is recovering well.

Wests Tigers assistant coach Royce Simmons said Tuiaki’s prognosis was much more positive than was thought a month ago.

“Taniela will now start to build up his ankle again,” Simmons said. “Whether he is back in four, five, six or eight weeks will depend on how he recovers. But we think now he will play again this year.”

Tuqiri told the English media he simply wanted to play footy in Australia again.

“My wife and I are both quite sad and it will be tough to leave,” Tuqiri said before the London Irish game.

“The fact that I was going back home clinched it but Leicester made it very hard.

“What would have been a lot more clear-cut before I got here, in terms of going back home, was nowhere near as clear-cut at the end. I would recommend the club to other players if they fancied a move overseas.”
